Location
The Makerspace at the Brugg-Windisch campus offers FHNW students and staff a creative environment in which they can independently realize and test their individual projects. Curious visitors can discover and directly apply digital as well as traditional, complex or simple production methods. Through uninhibited experimentation, knowledge is acquired in a playful way and the spirit of innovation is awakened.
The Makerverse is a joint project of the Universities of Applied Sciences for Technology and Environment and Computer Science and the University of Teacher Education. It was founded in 2016 with the support of the FHNW Foundation and the FHNW School of Engineering Foundation.
Location
The Makerverse is located in building 4. The metal workshop (4.021) and wood and textile workshop (4.023, 4.025, 4.027) are on the ground floor, while the 3D laboratory is on the first floor (4.125). The doors are signposted with the relevant information.

Who can use the Makerverse?
The offer is aimed at all students and employees of the FHNW.
What are the rules in the Makerverse?
You will find the most important safety and conduct rules in the instructions. These are explained and explained in more detail in the respective introductory course. Please also observe the ABC classification system when using the machines.
What do I have to do to be able to use the Makerverse?
You must have attended the introductory course for the respective workshop (3D lab, wood and textile workshop, metal workshop). Then you can use the workshops during opening hours. Always observe the safety and conduct rules. Carry your FH-Card with you in case the workshop staff want to check your access authorization.
Do I need a course to be able to use the tools and machines?
Yes, you need the introductory course, which teaches you the basic safety and conduct rules as well as the professional handling of tools and machines. Complex machines (ABC classification) are generally used in company, unless you have the appropriate training (e.g. EFZ as a carpenter).
What are OpenLabs?
OpenLabs are time slots in which the Makerverse workshops are open and supervisors (lab managers) are on site. They are advertised in the calendar of the respective workshop.
Is the Makerverse open today?

Can I use the workshops outside of opening hours?
Access to the objects, tools and machines in the respective workshop rooms is restricted to the designated opening hours.
What are the opening hours during the semester break?
This varies. The Makerspace is closed at Christmas and on some other public holidays. During the semester break, our opening hours are reduced to about once a week. We try to schedule them in the first week of the semester break. Please check the website for the current opening days and times.
Do I have to pay for the material in the workshop?
A basic stock of material is available in the respective workshop. This can generally be used free of charge. If large quantities are required, a financial contribution will be requested.
Do I have to reserve a machine?
No, machine reservations are not possible. They are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I use my own filament on the 3D printers?
The use of your own filament in our printers is not permitted. This restriction serves to ensure proper maintenance of the devices. Only the filament provided by Makerverse may be used.
Can I cut my own material on the laser cutter?
No, only the materials provided by the 3D laboratory can be used on the laser cutters. This regulation serves to maintain the functionality and safety standards of the devices. If you would like to cut your own material, you must ask the workshop staff. They will check the material according to the material list and process it if necessary.
My 3D print is finished after 20:00. Can I pick it up then?
No. The compartment for collecting the finished 3D printed parts is located in the corridor of the 3D lab (4.125). The lab managers will store the parts there immediately after printing is complete.
Can I borrow tools or machines?
It is not possible to reserve or borrow tools and machines in the Makerverse.
